Barbara Anne Hoekstra
August 5, 1946 – January 3, 2020

Barbara Anne Hoekstra, 73, of New Holland, formerly of Newtown Square, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020 at Garden Spot Village in New Holland. She left us after 6 years of fighting a rare and aggressive head & neck cancer. She was predeceased by her parents Virginia C. Hoekstra and Joseph R. Hoekstra of Newtown Square, PA

She is survived by her sisters, Virginia H. Jackson, and Ruth H. Bosler (James). Barbara was the Aunt to five nieces and nephews and 11 grandnieces and grandnephews who were the delight of her life. She was predeceased by her brother-in-law Philip D. Jackson.

Barbara had been employed with General Electric Space Division, Fairview Village Church of the Nazarene, Pequea Valley School District and retired from IU-13. She graduated from Marple-Newtown High School in 1964, and chaired her 50th class reunion. She also coordinated reunions with the neighborhood childhood friends, and the GE Accounting Department. Barbara loved traveling and was fortunate to visit over 35 countries/islands, 49 states in our country, and 18 National Parks. She gave many hours volunteering at Garden Spot Village in many capacities. She previously volunteered at Valley Forge National Park, Cypress Gardens, FL, ELANCO Library, Community Condo leadership council and many church councils and ministries.

She wanted to share her favorite Bible verse with everyone: “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

Barbara’s Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, March 14, 2020, 1:00 pm at Garden Spot Village, 433 S. Kinzer Road, New Holland, PA. The service will be in the Chapel that is accessible from Parking Lot #1. There will be a reception following the service.
