Obituary for Ruth Trauger
On April 13, 2020, Ruth (Krout) Trauger, age 95, passed away peacefully at Chandler Estates in Pen Argyl, Pennsylvania. She was born on December 7, 1924 in Hatfield, Pennsylvania to Henry Asher and Bertha Sophia Krout. At Highland Park Camp Meeting, she met her loving husband Rev. E. Earl Trauger and was married on October 7, 1944. During their 69 years of marriage, they had three wonderful sons: Robert, Stephen, and Tim.
Ruth was a dedicated mother first and foremost. She treasured her children and embraced every moment with them. Her favorite way to show her love was to bake cookies and make homemade pudding and cakes during her many visits.
After graduating from Souderton High School, as part of the WWII effort, Ruth worked as a roller-bearing inspector. Meanwhile Earl served overseas as a firefighter in the Army Air Corps. For the whole two-years Earl was gone, they wrote to each other each and every day. Upon his return and using the GI Bill, Earl became a carpenter and together they built their first house. Shortly thereafter, Earl attended seminary school and they began their ministry throughout Pennsylvania: Schuylkill Haven, Berkshire Heights (Wyomissing), Trevorton/Millers Crossroads/Snydertown, and Churchtown. During her ministry days she volunteered to wrap bandages in local hospitals and helped the women’s church groups with various events.
Her life as a minister’s wife was filled with love and compassionate for “ALL” family and church members alike. Her favorite hymn was “How Great Thou Art.” In addition, she was a very active member at Highland Park Camp Meeting in Sellersville, Pennsylvania. Her parents owned a cottage which she attended every year and continued to attend until the year before her death. As a cottager she would graciously do any task asked of her including peeling potatoes and singing in the choir.
Everyone who know her understood that she had 2 great loves: Birds and snow. Her house was “Filled” with bird clocks, bird towels, bird plates, and bird knick-knacks. She had numerous bird-feeders that mostly fed the squirrels but also feed the cardinals, finches, titmice, to name just a few, which she watched daily from her porch. In addition, she NEVER wanted to move away from Pennsylvania because she would miss the snow too much. After a snowstorm, Earl and Ruth would drive around in their BIG van videotaping how beautiful and peaceful the new fallen snow was regardless of where they lived. Finally, she loved to do hand-sewing, work with her violets, and visit her sons.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Earl Trauger, her son Stephen Paul Trauger. She is survived by: her son Robert Trauger and wife Cheryl from Atlanta, GA; daughter-in-law Angela Trauger (Steve’s wife) from Stroudsburg, PA; and son Tim Trauger and wife Penny from Chesterfield, VA. Ruth is also survived by her grand-children: Angee Trauger Waites of Abington, VA, Jason Trauger, Danny Trauger, Shawn Trauger and wife, Lindsey, all of Atlanta, GA; Erin Trauger Schoenherr and husband, Nick, of Blandon, PA; Brittni Trauger Blanton and husband, Billy, of Dumfries, VA, and Derek Trauger of Richmond, VA. Ruth was also blessed with the love of seven beautiful great-grandchildren: Drew and Brenna Waites, Harlyn and Isla Trauger, Emery and Ella Schoenherr and Benjamin Blanton. Ruth is also survived by her sister, Esther (Krout) Besch of Palm Harbor, FL as well as many nieces and nephews and countless friends.
Due to the Coronavirus, a private viewing and service will be held at 10:00 am on April 20, 2020 with Live Streaming at www.groffeckenroth.com. A Ceremony of Life Memorial Service will be announced at a later time.
