Ruth K. Essick, 92, of Honey Brook, died Thursday, January 24, 2019 after a brief illness at Tel Hai Retirement Community.
Born in Spring City, she was a daughter of the late Jacob F. and Climena (Ehst) Kolb. Her husband, Forrest W. Essick, died May 30, 1984.
Ruth was a homemaker and a former member of Vincent Mennonite Church and Pottstown Mennonite Church. Currently she was a member of Conestoga Mennonite Church where she participated in the Senior Connections and Wandering Shepherds. While at Vincent Mennonite Church she was active with the quilting and sewing circle. She enjoyed singing in the choir at Vincent Mennonite and at Tel Hai. She also enjoyed flowers, playing the piano, birds, gardening, watercolor painting class, caring for and arranging flowers as a member of the Coventry Garden Club, and swimming along with other exercises at Tel Hai.
Surviving are four children, Sharon, married to Glenn Bechtel of Oley, Lyle, married to Tina (Kulp) Essick of Pottstown, Jacob “Jay”, married to Rebecca (Souder) Essick of Pottstown, and Mary L., married to Steven Breidigan of Douglasville; 14 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; and a brother, Wilmer E., married to LaVon (Nolt) Kolb of Sellersville.
Preceding her in death is a brother, Homer E. Kolb.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, January 31 at 11 am at Conestoga Mennonite Church, 2779 Main St., Morgantown with the Pastor Robert Petersheim officiating. Interment will be in the Coventryville Methodist Cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 6-8 pm at Tel Hai Chapel, 1200 Tel Hai Circle, Honey Brook, and on Thursday from 10-11 am at the Church.
