Obituary for Richard James Keyser, D. D. S.

Richard James Keyser, D.D.S., 85, died Saturday, February 22, 2020 at Keystone Villa in Ephrata, PA. His wife of 61 years, Lois A. (Hogan) Keyser, survives.

Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late Francis Joseph and Frances Jane (Greenhalgh) Keyser, growing up in Kensington, he was active in the Boy Scouts of America, achieving Eagle Scout.

He graduated from Northeast High School, the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University Dental School. Subsequently, he served on active duty in the US Army stationed in Fairbanks, AK, and later with the reserves, retiring at the rank of Full Colonel in 1994. He also practiced dentistry in Yardley, PA, had his own practice in Malvern, PA and lastly as a staff dentist at the Coatesville VA Hospital.

He enjoyed cycling, fishing, canoeing, camping, skiing, DIY construction, and was an avid Lionel train collector. He had been a member of St. Matthew’s Lutheran Church, Chester Springs, PA for many years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two sons: Richard J. Keyser, married to Kate Jensen, Phoenixville, PA and Robert D. Keyser, married to Salinda (Seachrist) Keyser, Lititz, PA and two grandsons Benjamin D. Keyser and Nathan J. Keyser.

He was preceded in death by four siblings: Anna, Dorothea, Frances, and Thomas.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2020 at 2 p.m. at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to a charity of one’s choice. The Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill is assisting with arrangements.
