Renald E. Showers, 83, of Lancaster, PA went home to be with his Lord and Savior on April 4, 2019 following a lengthy battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Born in DuBois, Pennsylvania to Louis and Christina Showers, he was married to Eleanor Eby Showers for 56 years. He is survived by wife Eleanor; daughters Renee Raupp, Marbeth Golden; their husbands, Fred Raupp and Paul Golden; grandchildren Fred and Lauren Raupp, Jeremy and Joy Golden; and brother Louis Showers.

Choosing to forego a full-ride scholarship to Cornell University, he attended Philadelphia Bible Institute, Wheaton College, Dallas Theological Seminary, and Grace Theological Seminary to prepare for a lifelong ministry of studying, teaching at Lancaster Bible College, Philadelphia College of Bible, Moody Bible Institute, Word of Life Bible Institute, and the Institute of Jewish Studies, preaching around the world, and authoring 15 Christian books. His most popular book, “What on Earth is God Doing?” has been published into several languages. After 36 years of ministry with Friends of Israel, he retired at the age of 80.

He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, colleague, teacher and friend. He will be remembered for making complex Bible concepts simple to understand. His legacy lives on through his books and online sermons.

A memorial service honoring Rennie will be at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Road, Lancaster, PA at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 13, with a family visitation at 10:00 am. The family will also welcome friends on Friday, April 12, 6-8 pm at Calvary Church.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The Friends of Israel, PO Box 908, Bellmawr, NJ 08099 or Word of Life, PO Box 600, Schroon Lake, NY 12870-0600.

I praise God for Renald's life. His writings deeply impressed me, and I know they will continue to impact the lives of many people in the future, even as have the writings of C.S. Lewis. I met him personally back in the 1980s when he came to Dallas to speak at a conference my ministry was sponsoring. He gave two lectures based on his marvelous book, "What On Earth Is God Doing?" Our ministry has stocked his book on Daniel for many years, and we will continue to do so, It is a classic. My heart goes out to the Showers family. May the Lord minister to each one the peace that passes all understanding.

Dear Mrs Showers, Renee, Marbeth and families,
Shirley and family and I wish to express our sympathy on the loss of Mr Showers.
We have fond memories of living on Triebel Rd together ( we still refer to it as “the Showers’ house”), and also attending Faith Community Church and Faith Christian School together here in Roslyn, PA.
In the midst of grief, may you rest in the sure promise of our Risen Savior of eternal life for all His redeemed.
Take care, Ron Boekel

I was a student of Dr. Showers while he was at Moody. I took him for as many classes as I could. He instilled in me a love for interpreting the Bible accurately and submitting to the Spirit of God for transformation. I remember going to his office to hand in a late paper. As I began to give him my excuse, he interrupted me and said, "Kevin, it's OK. I trust you." Those simple words gripped me. I wanted to make sure every paper since then was on time. I did not want to disappoint him. I have been a pastor at the same church for over thirty years and I can say that no man had a greater impact on my love and care of the Word of God than Dr. Showers. I hope that his family can enjoy God's peace during these days and know that he impacted many people for the Kingdom of God. I am deeply saddened by his passing. Kevin Short

Mrs. Showers, I met you and Dr. Showers at several FOI prophesy conferences over the years. It was a great honor to meet you and to have Dr. Showers recognize me from year to year. He even was willing to look at Bible study I wrote to give me some feedback. I was amazed when we discussed my book to learn that he actually read it - the WHOLE book. He was even willing to write a forward for the book to encourage others to read it. What an amazing man. I learned so much from him over the years and his clear teaching and great knowledge lit a fire in me to learn more about the Jewish roots of my faith. I did much of that learning from him over the years, but he also helped me to know what resources to use to learn more. He was a wonderful teacher, a great scholar, a sweet soul, and a strong man of God. It was such a blessing to know him. Actually, I have prayed for "Dr. Showers and Ellie" in my daily prayers for years. I trust God answered those prayers and will continue to carry you through. May you especially feel His comfort at this time. Blessings, Dr. Lori A. Sefton

Dear Elly and Family Members,
Not only are we saddened upon hearing of Rennie's departure from our midst, but now we can't even manage to get to the Saturday service. I'm still too sick with a kind of flu. This note will have to do. We're so sorry. But we'll be praying for you as you grieve, now and later.
My family and I have learned so much from Rennie and I have been blessed and encouraged by his writings and his personal friendship over the decades. He knew as well as any man that through the comfort of the Scriptures we have hope. And now that hope has been fulfilled. May the same comfort be yours.
