Obituary for Michael A. Shoup

Michael A. Shoup, 63, of Morgantown, passed away on April 26, 2023 in his residence after a short battle with cancer.
Born in Roaring Spring, he was the son of the late Floyd Donald Shoup and Verna Audrey (Rhodes).
He was the loving husband of Cynthia D. (Stutzman) Shoup, with whom he shared thirty-nine years of marriage.
Mike was hardworking and resourceful even from a young age. He worked many jobs including helping run a drive-in restaurant, towing, and various odd jobs. He repaired and sold his first car at age 14. Mike joined the United States Army and was stationed in Germany for three years. He served as a fuel and electrical systems repairer. After he returned, his hardworking nature allowed him to start C&M Automotive in 1986 and build it into what it is today. All four of Mike’s children worked with him at the shop at some point. He often used the shop as a ministry. He was always ready to help anyone in need whether it was towing, figuring out “that noise” or finding the right vehicle.
Mike was an active member of Rockville Mennonite Church for 26 years. He enjoyed serving as a greeter and always had a smile or laugh for everyone. He also enjoyed cooking for many of the church retreats.
Mike had many hobbies and enjoyed sharing them with his children and grandchildren. He loved hunting, and it was a tradition to go each year with his sons. Mike was well-known for his delicious omelets and breakfasts, often cooking for large crowds. He had an infectious laugh that brought joy to all around him.
In recent years, Mike’s new favorite role was “Pop” as he was a grandfather to 10 grandchildren aged 6 and under with an eleventh on the way. He could often be found playing on the floor, reading a bedtime story, or napping on the couch with a baby.
Mike showed his love for others by serving. He offered to others whatever he had and was always willing to lend a helping hand. First and foremost, he loved the Lord and strived to serve Him in whatever he did. He trusted in Jesus as his Savior and is rejoicing with Him in eternity.
Mike is survived by his wife, his children; Kristen wife of Andrew Brodsky, David husband of Andrea Shoup, Joseph husband of Michelle Shoup and Jonathan husband of Leah Shoup and his grandchildren; Theodore and Addilyn Brodsky, Evalea, Isaac and Hadassah Shoup, Barrett, Annalise, Eloise and Graham Shoup and Nathaniel Shoup. Also surviving are his siblings; Elvina, Cherylann, Lavinia, Tina, Timothy, Mabel and Theresa.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his siblings; Floyd and Roxana.
