John (Jack) A. Alexander (83), of New Holland, PA, courageously traveled the path of cancer with thankfulness and kindness, following the Lord Jesus to his forever home, arriving there on December 14, 2022.
The son of Thomas Alexander and Anna Henrietta Skelly Alexander, Jack was born in Philadelphia and raised in Drexel Hill. He graduated from Upper Darby High School and Drexel University with a Degree of Bachelor of Science in Commerce. Commissioned as a Second Lieutenant, he served two years in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineering in Ft. Knox, KY.
Jack worked for manufacturing companies—GE, Leeds & Northrup, Moore Products, and Siemans Corporation—in job assignments including Quality Control Engineer, Purchasing Agent, Purchasing Engineer, and Global Procurement Specialist.
He was active in several different churches, serving as an elder and on missions committees. He helped start an ESL (English as a Second Language) program as a ministry outreach to immigrants in Havertown and West Philadelphia from Grace Chapel in Havertown. After a few years, he felt the Lord leading him to a full-time English ministry in China. He and his wife spent a year in China using English as a platform for Gospel ministry. After retiring from China, he began working full time in the home office of Crossworld, a world-wide mission organization. A few years later, he moved to Garden Spot Village, a retirement community in New Holland. He taught ESL classes there for a few years for immigrant employees seeking to improve their English.
When Jack moved to Lancaster County, he began to volunteer at an Amish farm. He learned some of the Amish techniques of farming and developed a friendship with the Amish farmer and his family.
Jack left behind his wife of 34 years, Deborah Reeder Alexander, his daughter Sharon Alexander Fleet married to Mark, his daughter Barbara Alexander Peterson married to Andy, and son-in-law James Hutzel, along with these grandchildren and great grandson: Corinne Fleet Lee and husband Tongil and son Josiah, Jon Fleet, Ryan Hutzel and wife Alyssa, Grace Peterson, Bethany Hutzel, Holly Peterson, and Connor Fleet. Also surviving are his sisters Eileen Eck and husband Fred and Ruth Diffin, as well as seven nieces and nephews. Jack was preceded in death by his oldest daughter, Lynne Alexander Hutzel, his father and mother, and his step-mother Martha Potts Alexander.
