Obituary for James Leon High

James Leon High, 87, of Gordonville, passed away on Tuesday, January 29, 2019 at Evergreen Estates Retirement Community.

He was married to Joanne Kling High, who predeceased him in 2010. Born in Millway, he was the son of the late James High and Kathryn (Barley) High.

James “Leon” was co-owner of High Bros. Mill along with his two brothers until his retirement.
Leon loved to play golf, he picked up this activity upon retirement. He was an avid bowler for many years, prior to retirement. He especially loved being at the Beach where he spent quality time with his family and friends. He attended the Intercourse United Methodist Church.
Leon graduated from New Holland High School and he was on the 1950 Basketball Team that won the Eastern State championship.

Surviving are three children, Victoria High Janeski, married to Jerry Janeski; Christine High Young; and James Kling High, married to Lisa Rae (Hoover) High; five grandchildren, Nicholas Young, James Alexander High, Kelsey Stamper, Elyse Wimer Fisher and Taylor Wimer; four great grandchildren, Moses Stamper, Eden Stamper, James N. High and Elijah Stamper; and two brothers, Michael B. High and Gregory L High. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Ann Louise Wimer, a sister, Norma Fryberger, and a brother Douglas High.

A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, February 5, at 11:00 A.M. at St. Stephen Reformed Church, 249 E. Main St. New Holland, PA with the Rev. Nathaniel Stamper officiating. A viewing will be held at the Groff High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA on Monday from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Friends may also greet the family at the church on Tuesday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family prior to the service Tuesday morning. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Intercourse United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 237, Intercourse, PA 17534.
