While raising her family, she worked at Great Valley High School for several years in Malvern, PA, and later as an administrative assistant for a chemical company. She was passionate about helping others, volunteering for many different non-profit organizations, including local food banks and the ReUzit shop in New Holland, and lending her knitting talents to create sweaters for Knit for Kids and blankets for hospice.
Evelyn was also an active and energetic community member. In Malvern, she led the women’s group of her church and then was a member of St. Stephen Reformed Church in New Holland. As an avid bowler until recent years, her name was a familiar sight in the local newspapers for achieving the high score for the week. She also enjoyed playing cards and participating in weekly Pinochle and Weirdo games with her friends at Garden Spot Village.
