Obituary for Esther H. Hess
Esther H. Hess, 71, of Pequea, died Tuesday, June 18, 2019 at Quarryville Presbyterian Retirement Community, after a brief illness.
Born in Pequea, she was a daughter of the late Christian M. and Edna Mae (Harnish) Hess.
Esther worked for many years as a manager at Willow Valley Bakery and later as Sales Clerk Manager at the former Darrenkamps.
She was a life member at Byerland Mennonite Church where she taught Sunday school most of her life. She enjoyed southern gospel music, flower gardening, traveling to foreign countries, and farming.
Surviving are nine siblings, Christ (Elaine Severino) Hess, Jr. of Pequea, Pauline H. (Melvin) Reitz of Lancaster, Anna Mae Hess of Mountville, Elvin H. (Sue Heistand) Hess of Conestoga, Raymond H. (Faye Greenawalt) Hess of Conestoga, Edna L. (Kevin) Kilheffer of Lancaster, Richard H. (Lynda Dolbert) Hess of Hershey, Joyce E. (Phil) Shertzer of Mountville, and Park E. (Stacy McFarland) Hess of Mancos, CO; along with many nieces and nephews and a family friend, Neal E. Council of NC.
Preceding her in death are two brothers, Abram H. and John Henry Hess.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 22 at 11 am at Byerland Mennonite Church, 931 Byerland Church Road, Willow Street, PA 17584 with visitation from 9:30 – 11. Private interment will be held at the adjoining cemetery at the convenience of the family.
