Obituary for Donald R Simmons

Donald R. Simmons, 81, of Denver, formerly of Blue Ball, died Tuesday, December 12, 2023, at WellSpan Ephrata Community Hospital. His wife of 55 years, Linda M. (Shirk) Simmons, survives.

Born in Blue Ball, he was the son of the late Harry H. and Verna (Fryberger) Simmons.

After graduating from Pequea Valley High School in 1960, Don served in the 2nd Armored Division of the Army. After his service time, he was a welder for Aggregates Equipment, Inc., Leola, owned and operated his own truck, that then drove for High Steel Service Center for 28 years, receiving a 1-million-mile safe driving award.


He was a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, the New Holland American Legion, and was past president of the Garden Spot Lions Club.

Don enjoyed skiing, hunting, and vacationing in Aruba. He was a good husband, father, father-in-law, and grandfather!

In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Michael married to Paula (Hockenberry) Simmons, Ephrata, and a granddaughter Diana.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 13, 2024, at 1:30 p.m. at Pine Grove Church, 1194 Reading Rd., Bowmansville, with Pastor Jonathan Yoder officiating. The family will receive friends informally after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the American Legion Conestoga Post 662, P. O. Box 143, New Holland, PA 17557.
