Obituary for Alfred James Stauffer
Alfred James Stauffer, 80, of Lititz, passed away from complications of Alzheimer’s on Sunday, March 3, 2019 at Ephrata Manor.
He was married 54 years to Ruth Ann Leaman Stauffer. Born in Brecknock Twp., he was the son of the late Aaron O. and Mary G. Musser Stauffer.
Al’s work experience included cabinet making at Rutt Custom Kitchens and Premier Custom Built; overseeing custodial, maintenance and “Helps” departments at the Worship Center; and co-managing his family’s fruit farm with his cousin David Musser.
Al was a member of the Ephrata Community Church. He enjoyed gospel music, reading and was an avid weather watcher. Except for the last several weeks of his Alzheimer’s journey, he maintained his precious sense of humor and a clear joyful faith.
Surviving besides his wife are these children and grandchildren: Lavon married to Moye West Stauffer and their sons, Preston, Grant and Carson of Lititz; Bob married to Krista Showalter Stauffer and their daughters, Alexandra and Ella of Mount Joy; a grandson Ethan Davis of Lititz (son of Al's late daughter Jan); and Marilyn wife of Ben Turner and their children, Aaron, Lily and Jack of Lititz.
Also surviving are two sisters, Mary Jane wife of Charles Rutter of Lancaster, and Lois wife of Harvey Thiessen of Hesston, KS. He was preceded in death by half sisters, Eva Fox, Elizabeth Burkhart, Verna Musser and Katie Stauffer and by half brothers, Jack Stauffer and Enos Stauffer.
A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, March 10, at 4:00 P.M. at the Ephrata Community Church, 70 Clay School Road, Ephrata, PA with the Rev. Matt Swords officiating. The family will greet friends at the church on Sunday from 3:00 P.M. until the time of the service. After the service a light meal will be available at the church for more greeting time. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Bowmansville Mennonite Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Al’s memory may be made to the Landis Homes Adult Day Care Services, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543.
